Color Pink

It rained for most of the day today so I didn't go outside.  Instead, here are pretty flowers and a Lego project that my husband bought for me this week.

Message | Color Pink

We had a snow day today, and I finished up a new Lego project.  This is the Family Tree, which the little plaque on the front notes.  It has lots of space for pictures or note cards.  I personalized it to have some pink flowers and a minifig to represent myself.  It included a little camera and book, which are things I love.

Most of the snow got washed away by the rain yesterday, but I did decide to play with Lego tonight.

National Building Museum and Holiday Party

We traveled to Washington, D. C. for a company party and decided to take in some of the exhibits at the National Building Museum.  We looked at a miniatures exhibit of souvenirs that mostly featured buildings, checked out the latest LEGO exhibit, walked through the exhibition about Brutalist architecture, and perused the Frank Lloyd Wright show about unbuilt works for Pittsburgh.

My dad worked for HUD for a while, and I never knew that the headquarters was a Brutalist design.  My mom doesn't think that he worked in this particular building though.

The atrium of the National Building Museum was already set up for the party later in the evening.

Behind the scenes: the mobile kitchen.

The menu for the dinner.

The back of the menu had a history of the National Building Museum.

Enjoying the party.

Today's challenge was to recreate the scene from American Gothic by Grant Wood with our own twist and creativity.  Here's my take, followed by the original.

Off Prompt

During our snow day yesterday I started another building project.  This is the Atom Brick project I got back in September when I visited Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob.  This is Unity Temple in Oak Park, Illinois.  This product is very similar to Lego, but it's a smaller scale.  The pieces are a lot smaller and can be a little painful to work with.  I love the building manual though!  It is hardbound like an actual book, and I like that it's on white paper instead of the black that Lego uses.  I tend to have a lot of difficulty distinguishing the colors on the black paper.  I would definitely build another Atom Brick project, especially the Frank Lloyd Wright ones that Lego has discontinued or doesn't have.

A snow day always calls for building a Lego project.  We haven't had snow for nearly two years (728 days to give the official number for an inch or more snow in Washington, D. C.).
