A Knife

My younger son earned this knife for selling Boy Scout popcorn quite a few years ago.  My son was quite the popcorn salesman and often earned top seller awards at both the unit and district level.  It sits in our dining room in this cupcake dish that my other son painted just in case someone is ever in need of a pocketknife.

Presidents Day

Practical

Picture Style | It's in the Details
My husband found a practical way to display our sons' Pinewood Derby cars.  Due to the difference in their ages, they were never in Cub Scouts at the same time, so we participated in the Pinewood Derby every January for ten years straight.

Ecstatic

Valentine's Day
The other day I found this pin from when one of my sons earned the rank of Life Scout in Boy Scouts.  Both went on to earn the rank of Eagle Scout so I photographed the heart-shaped Life Scout pin in between my two Eagle Scout mom pins.  I'm ecstatic that I was able to support them on their Scouting journey, and on this Valentine's Day, it's a bonus that I found a heart-shaped pin.

Supportive

Picture Color | Brown
I was able to find a bridge that one of my son's made for a Cub Scout bridge project, and I turned it into a support for one of my model cars.

Bliss

Picture More | Patterns
The past couple of weeks have been difficult.  Three people we have known well have all passed away.  Gordon Funkhouser and his late wife Judy were staples in my church growing up.  At church Gordon loved to usher and share the children's story when asked.  When I arrived at church early some Sundays, he was always willing to share a joke.  Later when I returned as an adult, Kendal Elmore became pastor there. He ignited the spark that had been smoldering for many years and ultimately baptized my husband and me, leading to our present involvement in our congregation.  Even though he moved to other pastorates and a stint as a district executive, we remained in contact.  We met Dave Blanchard shortly before our oldest son crossed over to Boy Scouts and for the next ten to twelve years we saw Dave on a nearly weekly basis at Scout meetings, camp outs, and District Scouter meetings.  Dave always had interesting information to impart to the Scouts when working on merit badges or in boards of review.  He was never short on stories of interest to the adults as well.  This flower arrangement was left at church as the communion table display for today and was almost certainly placed as part of Gordon's funeral.  I love the pattern of the roses in it, and it may seem strange to use this for the prompt bliss, but I feel that I know all three gentlemen well enough to believe that they have gone on to their eternal bliss.  Rest in peace, Gordon, Kendal, and Dave.

Joyful

Picture You | Harmony
It was truly a joyful day.  We attended an Eagle Court of Honor for one of the boys in our old Boy Scout troop.  Since our youngest son had aged out, we were already transitioning out of the troop in the fall of 2019, but we were still trying to help out and enjoyed attending courts of honor for the boys we knew.  Then the pandemic hit last spring, and special events that occurred at all were much smaller.  Today was the first time in a year and a half that we have seen many of these friends from our Scouting world.  Because many places are still not allowing groups or events, the ceremony was held outdoors at the Scout's home.

It started off with a campfire ceremony.

Our son was part of the Eagle honor guard.

And David, as the former Committee Chair, was asked to say a few words about the Scout.

All of the boys who are Eagle Scouts wanted a picture together.  Of course, I wanted to capture the moment, and several of the boys gave me their cell phones and asked me to take pictures for them too.

It was a beautiful day to celebrate this important moment and to spend some time with friends.

Savor

Picture You | What Makes Me Happy

It's Girl Scout cookie time!  As a former Girl Scout, I am all too happy to support this project by buying a box or two of Tagalongs to savor.  I thought it would be fun to take a picture with my old Girl Scout sash.  It brings back lots of memories when I look at this sash and my patches.
