Off Prompt

Today at church I presented a blanket to a member of our school board who is retiring after serving on the board continuously for 14 years.  This is a picture of the blanket which has a picture of the school's administrative building called simply The Stone House that I took a couple of months ago.

Soup

Today I visited the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley with my best friend.  I was able to finally catch the exhibit "Curious By Nature" featuring the art of Charley and Edie Harper on its last weekend there.  Among other things, I found this piece titled Potluck. Maybe the coatimundi is eating soup out of this container.  We'll never know.

A Knife

My younger son earned this knife for selling Boy Scout popcorn quite a few years ago.  My son was quite the popcorn salesman and often earned top seller awards at both the unit and district level.  It sits in our dining room in this cupcake dish that my other son painted just in case someone is ever in need of a pocketknife.

Where I Stand

I forgot to bring an extra water with me so before work I went into the grocery store in the shopping center where I work.  They have this mosaic at the entrance that resembles a compass rose.

This sculpture is called the Awakening.  It's by J. Seward Johnson, Jr. who created it in 1980.  
Originally, it was installed at Hains Point in Washington, D. C., where I first saw it around 1981 on a school field trip. (The field trip was to somewhere else in the city, but the buses parked at Hains Point and/or we ate lunch there.) For some reason because Congress designated Hains Point as the site of a national peace garden, the sculpture was sold and moved to a beach on the Potomac River at National Harbor in 2008.

Focus

Picture Style | Golden Hour 

Golden Hour photos are difficult for me.  I'm not a morning person, and in the evening when I'm driving home, I'm generally hungry and in a rush to get home to eat dinner.  Additionally, our house is surrounded by woods so by the time it's the golden hour, not much sunlight is getting through.  This is my attempt for the first day of golden hour pictures, a piece of stained glass art that hangs in our kitchen window year round.
