Remember

I have a couple of things to remember from today. My spring flowers have started to bloom!  This might be the earliest they've ever opened.  And my wonderful aunt made us Easter candy.

Apparel

Gianni Versace famously said, "Don't be into trends.  Don't make fashion own you.  You decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way you live."  That pretty much describes me.  In my high school yearbook I was quoted as saying, "I just wear whatever's in my closet."  Today my fashion says that I'm on my way to work rather than hanging out at home.

New

Picture You | Currently | Where I Stand
For just the second week in a row, we are seated in church on a Sunday morning.  This is still a "new" experience since we haven't met inside in over a year.

Picture More | A Different Angle
The goal for today was to place our camera on the ground and take a photograph from the ant’s point of view.  Here's the view from the approach at the bowling alley.  I had a very consistent day (136, 136, 137) and bowled a 409 set, meeting my goal of bowling a 400 set each week.

Prompt Free

Today was a big day.  Our dining room cabinet installation is finally complete.  We're still trying to put everything away so it's difficult to get a good angle.  I look forward to getting some nice pictures this weekend.

Perceptive

Picture More | A Different Angle
Today was the first Sunday that we have had indoor worship at our church in more than a year.  We have had virtual worship or outdoor worship only during that time.  It was nice to get back to a more normal experience, although there are still many differences: temperature screenings, empty pews to maintain social distancing, no singing, no bulletins.  Here are a couple of images to memorialize the day.  I did take picture of the communion table from different angles, but even though I like another angle better, I thought the one taken from my seat in church best captured the memory of the day.
"We gather together to ask the Lord's blessing;
He chastens and hastens His will to make known;
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing;
Sing praises to His name; He forgets not His own." ~"We Gather Together" (Netherlands Folk hymn)

Cloth

Picture Color | Yellow
We had an Easter craft day at church.  It was our first in-person fellowship event in over a year.  There were only a few of us in attendance, and it was held outdoors to further reduce risks.  We put together some little baskets for Easter and made some cards to send to people who are homebound.  A few people made some little Easter bunnies out of cloth.  There were quite a few bits of yellow here.

Well, on the one hand, I forgot my camera today.  However, on the other hand, a few people brought snacks to the bowling alley.  My mom brought some cupcakes, and when I realized that some of them had yellow frosting, I knew I had my picture for today because this is a brilliant shade of yellow frosting.  Taken with my Samsung tablet.

This simple image comes from a local ice cream establishment that is only open seasonally because it is outdoors.  It is still closed for a few more weeks, and then it will probably be more difficult to get such a clean shot of the exterior.

Since it was Wednesday, I decided to look at the bowling alley as my street and I took this quick picture  while everyone was in the midst of bowling.  Then I converted it to black and white.  My bowling was anything but dull that day though.  My high game for the day a 171, and I had a 460 set.  Taken with my Samsung tablet.

Interesting

Picture Style | Street Photography
I always find it interesting when people leave their shopping carts in different places in the parking lot.  In this case it seems like it might have been more work to get the cart over the curb than to just take it over to the entrance, but we'll never know what reason they had for leaving it there.

Signal

Picture Style | Street Photography | Macro Monday
I had to be at church for a meeting this evening, and I chose to photograph this sign.  Our church started a school in 1986.  At one time it went from preschool through 8th grade, but a recession decimated the numbers, and now it is trying to grow from preschool through 3rd grade by adding a grade each year.  Many years ago I served on the board of that school with a gentleman whose granddaughter went to school there from preschool all the way through 8th grade.  He loved his Lord; he loved his granddaughter; and he loved our little school.  He was so concerned about the children that he petitioned the state department of transportation to put a full-fledged school zone signal with the flashing lights and everything in front of the church and school building.  To their credit, the department of transportation considered it but said that the number of students and the amount of traffic on our road didn't justify one of the big signals.  Instead they installed this sign.  That gentleman passed away last March.  That sign will forever be a signal to me of the care that that gentleman had for our school.  RIP William A. Long Jr.  We're working hard to carry on your legacy.

Choice

Picture Style | Street Photography
I was at the grocery store today and sat in my car looking for interesting things to happen.  I just missed the guy playing an electric violin in the parking lot.  He left before I could get parked and get my camera out.  Between being too slow to pick up my camera and vehicles parking in my way, I didn't see very many interesting sights.  I did notice the girl come out to collect the shopping carts.  Even though I don't know her name, I see her here nearly every week, doing lots of different things.

Home Renovations

 We have been working on some projects around the house for the past few months.  So far two rooms have been painted, and a new display shelf has been put up.  Today, lower cabinets were installed in our dining room.  Before that project can be finished the counter needs to be installed.  Pictures will be shared during as phases are completed.

Positive

Picture You | Picture My Reflection
A proverb says, "As water reflects the face, so one's life reflects the heart."  My best friend and I were able to have lunch today at Griffin Tavern in Flint Hill, Virginia, a small town just on the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  It was a very relaxing and positive outing.  We were belatedly celebrating her birthday.  We have been friends for 40 years now, I think, and have been there for each other through all of life's ups and downs and all of the different stages of life.  We are blessed that at this stage in life we are able to get together for various events (birthdays, museum and gallery visits, lunches, parades) several times a year.

Street

Picture You | Picture My Reflection

 I have made several attempts to take a picture of the street sign with me in it, but every time something goes wrong.  The other day I forgot the tripod.  Then I remembered the tripod but forgot the part that attaches the camera to the tripod.  Next I tried using my tablet, but it was casting a shadow.  So I just decided to go with the street sign.  This is the street where we built our house in 1999.  We raised and homeschooled our boys here and have no immediate plans to move.

Exhilaration

Picture You | Picture My Reflection
It's Wednesday so that must mean that I am bowling, and bowling a good game is exhilarating.  My best game today was a 167.  I also bowled a 429 set (the total of all three games).  One of my goals this year is to try to bowl a 400 set each week, and so far I am making good progress toward that goal.  I had some different ideas about how to show exhilaration, but I put all of my bowling stuff away before I remembered that I needed to take a picture.  So here is selfie of me at the alley.  Taken with my Samsung tablet.

Button

Picture You | Picture My Reflection | Self Portrait
This week has been a failure as far as photography.  I have taken pictures every day but have not had the time to post them.  Then tonight when I went to look through them, I see that the pictures for Sunday and Monday are blurry.  So now the question is whether to skip them altogether, re-shoot the pictures at some point when I have time, or just post the blurry ones as an example of what real life is like.  Here is my quick photo of the day.  It's just the buttons on my winter coat, which I hope to be able to put up soon.
