I dared to go outside to put something in the mailbox this morning.  We got a little bit of snow on Friday, and it's still hanging around because the temperatures had been below freezing over the weekend. I thought to bring a small box with me to set my camera on so that it wasn't actually sitting in the snow.

As a child riding the school bus, I saw these utility towers and thought they looked like giant robots marching across the countryside.  It amused me to think about that on those bus rides, and this was in the days before Transformers and the Iron Giant movie.  They are spaced pretty far apart, but you can several of them in a row if you look closely.

My longish hair merited a haircut so that's what was scheduled for today.  It was way too cold (only in the teens) to try to take a picture outside sans coat today so I waited until I got home.  And yes, we still have our Christmas decorations up.  I'm hoping to get all of that packed up this weekend.

Well, it did snow here for quite a while today.  We got about three inches of actual snow, but then it switched over to sleet.  We're just enjoying the weather from the comfort of the house today.  I'm grateful that we got home safely from church before it started snowing too hard.  Just hoping that the power stays on this time.  "There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.  There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.  There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men." ~1 Corinthians 12:4-6

These piles of snow seem to be pretty strong since they are still around almost two weeks after the snowstorm, surviving several days of temperatures in the 40s and 50s (7-10 degrees Celsius).  Another winter storm is supposed to come through on Sunday afternoon into Monday morning, but the forecasts are all over the place regarding how much snow we might get or whether it will be the dreaded wintry mix or just rain.  Either these piles of snow will grow larger or maybe they will get washed away.

One of the things that makes my community unique is the prevalence of farmland.  We have beef cattle operations, dairy farms, horse farms, orchards, large scale fruit and vegetable farms, and there's even a new poultry farm down the road.  Unfortunately, in a couple of the neighboring counties, farmland is being sold and converted to subdivisions at an alarming rate, and those are definitely not unique.  Here are some of the cows from the farm down the road.  The family also operates a country store, which houses the local post office.

Even though it has been a rainy, dreary day, I was enthusiastic about going to look at a local lake to see what it looked like with some of the snow still left on the ground. However, when I got there the road was blocked off.  Given the condition of many of the trees I saw, including the ones in my photo, I can't say that I'm surprised.

I had several ideas for this picture.  At first I thought it would fall on a Wednesday, that would be great because I could get both letters from the Bowl America sign.  Alas, I had my days mixed up.  Then I decided that the A in our Mathnasium sign would be great to include, but due to the leftover snow I couldn't make it to work today.  Instead I had to look around my house for inspiration. The A comes from my personalized license plate.  I even included some snow for context.  The B is from a book cover because I just love reading.

In case you can't tell, the moving van was stuck and blocking the road for a considerable portion of the day.  Taken from the end of my driveway, where another lady was stuck in the ditch across the street!

It snowed today, and I had an idea for a picture that didn't really turn out the way I wanted, and I didn't feel like spending a lot of time outside trying to troubleshoot.  Our electricity was out from 9:15 a. m. until 5:15 p. m. so it was a spend the day in pajamas and sweatshirts kind of day.  I spent a good chunk of the day working on a new Lego project: the Dubai skyline.  Here are my two attempts for today.
