Picture You | What Makes Me Happy
What a difference 24 hours makes!  We got four inches of snow.  Much different than the 8-10 inches that was forecast.  A little snow every year makes me happy, especially since I get to do a little sledding.

David has found himself with extra time on his hands due to Covid work restrictions (we have been calling them covidcations), and he has been doing some painting.  We just got the bookshelf moved back and all of the books back on it.  I took this opportunity to re-organize the books, and to break the rules by photographing the bookshelf at an angle.

Light

Picture More | Break the Rules
It's been a busy week, and between working late and bad weather, there hasn't been much sun to try to make a sun flare.  However, the Wolf Moon has been waxing so this is my attempt at breaking the rules with light.  This was taken with my Lumix DC-ZS70 from my car on my way home from work so it isn't the best photo, but I think the moon and clouds look pretty cool.

Cheerful

Picture More | Break the Rules

Ripley makes me cheerful, and nearly every time I try to get a picture of her, I'm sure I break a lot of photography rules.  Here there was a lot of background clutter, and I cut off her paw.  By the way, she was more cheerful when I put her down after attempting to take a selfie with her.  That never goes well.  Lol!

Ministry of Truth?

If you were thinking that a Biden presidency might not be so bad, you might want to think twice. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says that Congress is looking into media literacy initiatives and expressed a desire to rein in the media. Exactly which media is she looking to rein in? There are definitely shades of '1984' here. We are reminded of Pastor Martin Niemöller's famous words:
"First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

Openhearted

Picture Style | Travel | Macro Monday

In 2009 we took a cruise to the Canadian Maritime provinces and Maine.  Our 14th wedding anniversary occurred during the cruise, and my husband and son picked out these earrings for me at craft fair at one of the ports of call.  We believe it was in Sydney, Nova Scotia.  This was a wonderful cruise, and we enjoyed all of the stops.  We rented a car in Saint John, New Brunswick, and drove out to Fundy National Park and ate lunch.  In Saint John, my husband went into a bank to get directions and said the people were incredibly helpful.  On the same cruise we also rented a car on Prince Edward Island so that we could drive to the Confederation Bridge and then to the Green Gables Heritage Place.  I have such fond memories of the trip, and everyone we met was openhearted and friendly.

Fascinating

This will be picture #1 in a series of 4 pictures to be taken in the same spot seasonally!  We planted these Leyland cypress trees soon after we built our house in 1999.  We chose them because they grow quickly, and we were looking for something to provide a year-round screen from the road and potential future development.  We should have spaced these three out more and bought a few more.  These trees are particularly beautiful in the rare snows that we get in Virginia.  Since I took this just before 5:00 p. m. in the winter, I am looking forward to seeing how the light changes through the seasons in this same spot.

Censorship

This has gotten beyond ridiculous.  Since when do we allow the media and tech companies to control what we see, think, and say?

<<Google has removed today Parler, a social media networking app . . . from the official Play Store. . .

"In order to protect user safety on Google Play, our longstanding policies require that apps displaying user-generated content have moderation policies and enforcement that removes egregious content like posts that incite violence," a Google spokesperson told ZDNet today.>>

Why is Google the arbiter of how user-generated content is "moderated"?  I seriously doubt that Snapchat is moderated. Isn't that available through the Play Store?

Relinquish

Picture You | About Me
According to the Webster's dictionary, relinquish means to withdraw or retreat from, to give up or to let go.  My younger son decided that it was time to go through his room and purge all of the old broken toys and junk that had accumulated through the years.  Since we had time off from work and classes, this was a good time to do it.  We developed a system and have dumped several trash bags and other miscellaneous stuff (like broken lamps and storage boxes) into this trailer that will eventually be hauled off.  We made a lot of progress, but there are still a few things to sort through.  Here I am doing my part by letting go of this broken school bus.

Start

Happy New Year!  This year my church has decided to bring the congregation together around a common goal of reading through the Bible.  Today was day one of that endeavor as well as the start of my fourth year of trying to take a picture every day and working on my photography skills.

This year I am hoping to post my daily pictures here.

Year of Books

In January 2020 I started the year by posting my favorite books to Facebook.  It started out as just being something to do for the month of January, but somewhere around the middle of January I decided to extend it and see if I could come up with a book for every day of 2020.  Well, I did it!  Here is the list.

Day 1: Little House in the Big Woods. This is the book that hooked me into reading FOR LIFE. I have accepted a challenge to post seven books that I love, one per day, no exceptions, no reviews, just covers. Let's promote literacy and a book list!! #ReadThisDay
