My mom and I attended the 90th birthday celebration for our bowling teammate. Her family did a fantastic job with the event, and while she knew there was a party, she was surprised by the extent of it. She moved to Virginia from New York and had bowled there too. Her teammates from there were also in attendance.

Update
The update to our patio is this new table. By the time the patio was finished last year most places didn't have patio furniture in stock. We didn't hesitate to order the table that we wanted.

After Christmas I used some of my Christmas money to splurge on a new bag. Here I am heading out for the day, with Ripley following close on my heels.

Muffin
It's always easy to pop into the grocery store before work. There were lots of muffins from which to choose. I narrowed it down to these two.

Footprints
Yesterday we got a dusting of snow. As I was heading out to my car to leave this morning, I realized that there was a trail of footprints in the snow.

It rained for most of the day today so I didn't go outside. Instead, here are pretty flowers and a Lego project that my husband bought for me this week.

Message | Color Pink
We had a snow day today, and I finished up a new Lego project. This is the Family Tree, which the little plaque on the front notes. It has lots of space for pictures or note cards. I personalized it to have some pink flowers and a minifig to represent myself. It included a little camera and book, which are things I love.

An eighth of a teaspoon is just a little bit of chili powder. That's probably not quite enough for the chili that I'm starting to make.

Love
I'm loving the combination of devotional materials that I am currently using. I'm re-reading Fresh From the Word which was originally published for the 2008 300th anniversary of the Brethren. To read the Bible passages I am using the newly published Anabaptist Community Bible, which includes commentary from Anabaptist scholars and historical notes. Lastly I've been reading a compilation of Wendy McFadden's publisher's messages from Messenger magazine.

Game
My family discovered this game a few years ago, and it has become a favorite. The reader reads an event and you have to place it correctly between the other years in your own chronology. If you guess correctly you get the card. If you don't get it correct, the person next to you has a chance to guess. It's a fun game for fans of history.

Now
It has been extremely cold here in Virginia this week. The snow we got on January 6 is still hanging around, and the snow that fell on January 19 has hardly melted at all. Today was sunny, but at 11:00 a. m. the temperature was just 14°F. Parts of the back patio still look like this. Schools were delayed or canceled today due to the cold temperatures and icy roads.

Chosen | Seasonal Photo
I have chosen our back patio for the seasonal photo this year. I am hoping that there will be a lot of changes here over the coming year. Today is a clear day with a temperature of 37°F.

Adjust
My pile of junk mail toppled over twice yesterday so I needed to make an adjustment to whittle it down. First I moved it to a box so that I wouldn't have to pick it up again, and then I started opening the envelopes and sorting through everything.

Quiet
All's quiet here on a snowy Epiphany day. In Virginia, any snow generally means a snow day. The roads were too bad for me to drive to work today, but my boss who doesn't generally close for snow, made the unprecedented decision (at least in the 7 years I have worked there) to close today.
Today I thought of Robert Frost's poem:
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Soup
Today I visited the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley with my best friend. I was able to finally catch the exhibit "Curious By Nature" featuring the art of Charley and Edie Harper on its last weekend there. Among other things, I found this piece titled Potluck. Maybe the coatimundi is eating soup out of this container. We'll never know.
Some other images I enjoyed.
And the obligatory picture of us together with some of Charley Harper's National Parks poster art.
