Land

Picture Color | Emerald
Sundays usually find us at church, a grounding part of the week.  I saw this emerald (well, maybe jade is more like it) candle and thought it would be great for today's POTD.  "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." ~Romans 8:38-39

Luxury

Picture Basic | Wide Aperture
We spent the day with our children and my husband's parents to celebrate my husband's birthday.  Dessert options were chocolate satin pie and peach cobbler a la mode.  After a lunch of barbecue and all the sides, dessert wasn't necessary, but it was definitely a bonus.

Make

Picture Basic | Wide Aperture
My son likes to make Lego projects.  This is #12 Grimmauld Place, the former headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix.  Harry Potter and his friends used it as a hiding place in some of the Harry Potter books.  It is generally hidden to passersby on the streets.  In the movies, it is revealed as numbers 11 and 13 slide apart.  Looking closely at this model, you can see that it cleverly slides open and closed.

On July 19 Fauquier County lost two community members.  Pablo Teodoro died in a car accident, and Officer Sal Torelli passed away unexpectedly at home.  Officer Torelli was a beloved school resource officer, and Mr. Teodoro was the proprietor of the local Main Street bakery Great Harvest, which opened in 2010.  These signs have been on the windows of the bakery since Mr. Teodoro's passing.  Many people have left heartfelt notes.  In fact, just before I took my picture, someone was leaving a message on one of the signs.

Journey

Picture Basic | Wide Aperture
The people who were on this train most likely made the journey back to Manassas from a day in the Washington, D. C. whether they were working or sightseeing.  So far I'm not having luck in changing the aperture on the new point & shoot camera that we have.  I was hoping that the train in the background would be out of focus.

Picture Life | 100 steps
I usually park about 100 steps from the door at work.  During the summer we do theme days to make things a little more fun.  We do things like cool sunglasses day, wear your favorite pattern, tell an instructor a joke or riddle, etc.  Today's theme was Hawaiian so I wore a shirt that I found in my husband's side of the closet.

Logical

Picture Life | 100 steps
It was logical for us to build a clubhouse of sorts for our son when he was younger.  Conveniently, it is about 100 steps away from the house.  It has electricity, air conditioning, and heat so it could be used all year.  He's outgrown it now, so it's a place to store camping equipment.

My sons also used to swim on a swim team every summer, but I couldn't find a single picture of them swimming.  I did find a few pictures from swim meets but nothing with any real action that wasn't blurry (apparently my older son took some pictures of his brother swimming on one occasion).  In lieu of that, here is my volleyball picture from junior high.  I only played for one season because in high school I joined the color guard for the marching band, and volleyball seasons and marching band competition seasons were the at the same time.

Another one from the archives.  Both of my sons also played basketball.  At one time all of the teams were issued the same uniform: a reversible jersey that was bright orange on one side and white on the other so that one team was white and the other orange for every game.  On most Saturdays, we had a game for each boy to attend.

By-gone

Picture Color | Sepia

On our recent trip to Colonial Williamsburg, we stayed in a room in the Chiswell-Bucktrout House through the colonial house program.  This house was reconstructed in 1951 based on a part of the house that survived until the 20th century.  Col. John Chiswell had the house built.  He was apparently hot headed and was arrested for murder and mysteriously died before his trial.  Benjamin Bucktrout, a cabinetmaker from London, purchased the house a few years after Chiswell's death.  The room where we stayed was comfortable with modern amenities and a taste of a by-gone era.  Again I processed this in ON1 with an antique filter.

The view from our room.

This is the William Finnie house, an original building in Colonial Williamsburg.  In my recent readings, I have learned that Thomas Jefferson was familiar with this house and there is speculation that he may have based early designs of Monticello on this house.  Photo processed in ON1 using the antique filter.

For comparison, here is the east front of Monticello (from Monticello's website).

And here is the more famous west front (also from Monticello's website).
