BrickFair

Today we went to BrickFair in Chantilly, Virginia.  Zach and Tim, the father/son team, and possibly Jen from season 2 of LEGO Masters were in attendance.  Here are a few pictures of things I liked.

I like how these trees are made. Just wanted to get a close up in case I have a reason to make my own.

Forge

Picture Style | (Not) Still Life
Tonight we met our son and some of his co-counselors at a good spot between our house and the summer camp and took them out to dinner.  My son doesn't like to have his picture taken so I strategically choose the times I ask him to be in a picture; usually it involves asking his friends to be in the picture.  Since they willingly agree, he has no choice.  Lol!  They are forging friendships this summer and gaining life and job experiences at the same time.

Plastic

Picture Style | Still Life
Here's a look inside locker 209 at Bowl America Bull Run.  This has been my locker for the past couple of years.  A new company has bought all of the Bowl Americas, and there are rumors that my section of lockers is going to be removed to make way for a new bar.  So I thought this would be a good prompt to document my locker in case I lose it in the coming months.  I have no idea whether my bowling ball is made of plastic, but I'm sure there are plenty of other plastic items in there.

Today is my husband's 55th birthday so I attempted to make his favorite cake: German chocolate.  I've never made a layer cake, and I either should have been more sparing on the bottom layer or bought two tubs of frosting.  I don't even like coconut, and currently I'm trying to eat gluten free so he gets to enjoy the whole cake himself.

Angle

Off Prompt

Some of the members of our church went kayaking this afternoon.  After we were done and were enjoying some snacks and fellowship, we noticed that someone was getting this sailboat ready to take out on the lake.  I got to capture a photo from above, which isn't the usual angle to photograph a sailboat.  "Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberius), and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the miraculous signs he had performed on the sick." ~John 6:1-2

We even saw some geese walking on water!

In reality, the water level was extremely low at that point in the lake.

This is the third in a series of four pictures during this year.  There are more differences in the pictures than I originally thought there would be. Because the leaves are fully on the other trees, I had trouble finding the top of the cypress tree.

Path

Picture You | Just the Details | Where I Stand
I went to the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley with my best friend today.  We started with a walk in the gardens, where I literally stopped to smell the roses.  After that we took in the Norman Rockwell exhibit.

Just a couple of the roses that we saw today.  I know the one is out of focus, but I love the dual color of the rose.  It was so gorgeous in person.

More pictures of paths.  This was such a perfect prompt for today!

Heart

Picture You | Just the Details
I had every intention of taking a picture of something bowling related today, but I left the bowling alley and realized that I had forgotten to take a picture.  As I was finishing my lunch, I had an idea.  Since I had a Sharpie with me and I love Chick-fil-A, it's going to have to do for today.

Contentment

Picture You | Just the Details
I'm missing a couple of pictures for this week.  Even though I've had ideas for them, I haven't had the time to implement them.  At first I was stumped for what to do for today, but then I remembered that today is the day I pick up my flower bouquet.  Having flowers all summer has brought me contentment.  I talked to Rose of Rosie's Posies for a while today about her guineas.  It has been fun to get to know a new neighbor too.

Junk

Picture You | Just the Details
I have been on a mission to clean up our office/former classroom.  As we were winding down our homeschooling days in 2019, the classroom became a dumping ground for things that needed to be gone through, including old bills, curriculum, and even some of my older son's things after he moved out of his college apartment.  It's a daunting task, but I'm determined to finish it this summer.  This pile of papers might be mostly junk, but I need to look through it so that something important doesn't inadvertently get thrown out.

Togetherness

Picture You | Just the Details | Self Portrait
This is a picture of the fellowship that happens after church every Sunday.  I couldn't think of a better way to capture togetherness today.  And as a bonus I figured out how to use the timer on my point and shoot so that I could be in the picture too.  "Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, 'Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.'" ~Mark 6:31

Challenge

Picture Color | Green
It was a challenge to get to the grocery store today to pick up food for my son's Lord of the Rings marathon tomorrow.  It was so hot again today, and I had to double and triple check the list to make sure I didn't forget anything.  Then add to it that the store seems to be out of some things again; not quite as bad as last spring/summer, but still making it a challenge when you can't find something for several trips in a row.

Door

Picture Color | Green
I knew that I would be able to find green doors somewhere near Main Street in Warrenton.  This is the Fauquier History Museum at the Old Jail (formerly the Old Gaol Museum).  Loving the symmetry and all of the green here!

I also really like this picture of the John Marshall statue.  John Marshall lived from 1755 to 1835 and was born in southern Fauquier County.  He was the fourth Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court (serving from 1801 to 1835), and the statue identifies him as a frontiersman, soldier, and lawyer.

Today we went to a minor league baseball game (Fredericksburg Nationals) and then watched fireworks from our car after the game.  Aside from issues with parking, it was a pretty fun evening.  In my first picture, the green of the diamond can be seen through the lace of the protective netting.

In this second picture, the green fireworks paint a lacy picture in the sky.

Benefit

Picture Style | It's in the Details
Last year I tried to grow lavender, but it died pretty quickly.  I'm trying again, and so far the plants are doing better.  There are many benefits of lavender.  In the garden, you can place lavender strategically near the vegetable garden to attract bees and other pollinators.  Additionally, you can simply enjoy the pop of color of the flowers or the butterflies it can attract.

Over

Picture Style | It's in the Details
Tonight we went out to dinner with my younger son who was heading back to his job at a summer camp.  After dinner my husband and I stopped at a local ice cream place for dessert that put the evening over the top.  I did not overeat, however.  Photo taken with our Nikon Coolpix, and I'm still having trouble with the autofocus where it looks like it's in focus on the tiny screen but when I upload them at home I discover they are not.
